- Islam in Spain has an essential prescense in the culture and the history of the nation. Islam was present in Spain from 711 until 1492A.D . Spain and Portugal-Iberian Peninsula were given the Latin name Hispania. The muslims conquered Spain in 711A.D after the decline of the West Roman Empire.
